Title: Looking for an Yngwie type sounding neck pickup
Post by: 357mag on December 21, 2018, 09:12:12 PM
I've used the HS-4 but it's old and pale sounding. And because of it's low output tends to sound too clean. I'm looking for another pickup either single-coil or vertical humbucker than has a little bit of that Yngwie neck pickup sound.

Fender Fat 50's? Virtual Vintage 54 Pro?

Any ideas?

I am currently using the YJM Fury's which are great but am always interested in other pickups which have a semblance to that sound.

The Injectors were developed for Yngwie before he jumped to SD. How about one of those?

The Injectors were developed for Paul Gilbert. Not Yngwie.

The Injectors were developed for Paul Gilbert. Not Yngwie.

Yes: Gilbert adopted and promoted them as the pickups in his signature Ibanez. But the Injector was initially developed as the next in the HS series to offer the improvements Yngwie requested before he jumped brands. If I’m wrong, then I apologize for the false memories of hearing that story from Gilbert and Dimarzio reps at past NAMMs.

Either way, I’m curious to hear from someone how the Fury and Injector compare. If you end up finding a different Dimarzio offering that compares to the Fury, please post an update with your impressions.

I think the Injectors could work

Well, it's not gonna get more Yngwie-sounding than the HS-3, HS-4 and the Furys since that is what he actually used/uses. He also used the FS-1 back in the Alcatrazz days. Maybe give that one a try.
