The mini bar (off topic & misc) / Re: What do you use to record?

The R8 would be perfect for that because you also have the built in drum machine which you can program, sequencer, and even though they aren't earth shattering, the amp models are workable enough that you can get some decent tones from them. Or you could go with the 16 or 24 track version. They also work as an interface for DAW ware, and use usb for transport as well as recording interface. I take mine everywhere.

I started my "modding" with DiMarzio, went Duncan, then realized that both brands had things in their catalogs that I could use. Back in my Metal days it was X2Ns and hs3s in my HSS super strats (you not only had to play with pickup heights but use quite a bit of compression to get those two even remotely close to the same volume). Eventually, since I used rack gear at the time, I just made my clean presets louder to compensate for the clean stuff that and using the 2 position between the x2n and middle hs3. Heavily distorted, gong to the neck hs3 didn't seem to drop very dramatically. If only they had the injector or vvhb2 back then, and I had realized that with that much preamp, there was no need for that much pickup.

I never really listened to much Frank. His former bassist has a church one town over from where I live. His stuff was very technical but in a weird way. I just couldn't gel with his stuff.

Guitar Lounge / Re: Stratocaster tuning secret
« on: February 19, 2021, 12:30:38 PM »
I have always angle the claw on every guitar I have, Floyd, six screw strat, 2 post strat. The big thing about them staying in tune is nut friction (also bad on a summers day when you're wearing pants). Every guitar I have that is a strat style guitar has locking tuners and a roller nut. Is it overkill/ For some probably. But for me it's the secret sauce that keeps my strats in tune.

I have 21 axes. Thankfully most of them are completely different from the other. That being said, it really doesn't seem to matter what I play, I still sound the same, good or bad.

I will get it out and post some pics. I think that since the original metallic paint is long gone, I am going to repaint it. AGAIN......I left the headstock the original color. I have a guy that can computer match car paint, so I think I am going to pay him a visit and just do a real restoration. I will look into the Schaller pickup. If I can't find one or find one that is decent enough, I will probably either go for a Tone Zone due to it being wired straight to the jack, or the Perpetual Burn.

if you're genuinely "curious", you'd be throwing down the $ and trying them out instead of flexing on a message board.

I was sort of thinking the same thing myself. I'm new here so I'm gonna try and establish myself as the alpha.

Alright. Let's see. I am primarily a two brand guy (Seymour and DiMarzio). What have I used at different times? Paf Pro, Hs3, Tone Zone, X2N, Super D, VVHB2 (which after installing in 1 guitar is now my go to stacked single).

Between Seymour and DiMarzio, I see no need to go anywhere else. It just makes life easier.

Wow. Talk about a late response. I just now noticed that you replied back in October. Good to see another member of the SD forum over here.

I use a Zoom R8 for tracking as well as drum loops. Like Stephen said, it is time consuming doing drum loops if you actually want it to sound like a drummer. I then mix down in Logic Pro. It is time consuming doing everything by myself, but when I FINALLY get to where I am recording the guitars, it becomes enjoyable again.

I think what you are noticing is quite the same with trying to use speaker cables for guitars and vice versa. A friend of mine had this terrible high frequency noise coming from his studio monitors. So much so, that my ocd kicked in and instead of recording my track, I started chasing down the noise. What did I find? He was using guitar cables for his monitor leads (they're both 1/4" plug so what's the difference was his logic). After going to my cord bag and hooking up an actual pair of speaker cables to his monitors the noise disappeared and I was able to concentrate on playing. I have noticed that you can get that same high pitched noise when practicing through headphones. I also think, like someone else said, that it is a capacitive induced noise that is from being in proximity to other things (computers, headphones being close to your pickups, cordless phones). When I was a phone technician I would see this phenomenon often. Especially in aerial cables.

It's hard to tell on Youtube as they compress everything SO much.

I have a HWY 1 Strat with a JB jr. in the bridge that is getting the HB2 in the middle and neck. I think the extra midrange content will blend well the the tiny JB. I am also going to try it in my Splattercaster in the bridge.
