The Pickup Place / Recommend me some pickups
« on: July 09, 2018, 03:39:17 PM »
Hi guys, I am looking for a set of pickups for an esp Ltd eclipse (les paul basically). I have one with a pair of 36th anniversaries in it.  The other has the stock POS still in it.

First off, I love everything about the 36s.
What I am looking for is the next step or two hotter for the bridge pickup.  I want to cover some harder rock and older school metal type of stuff.

I will most likely put some sort of paf type neck pickup in it.

Thanks in advance.

SD fill shred.  Tighter than tight.

The Pickup Place / Re: Pickup recommendation for an RG565

I have an rg3xxv, which is sorta the reissue of your rg565.

It came with an air Norton s/ d'activator  combo.  Those coupled with the unique Ibanez switching have never given me a reason to switch them.  All I did was add a treble bleed.  The air Norton s sounds great in parallel.  Inner coils sound very fender, sort of a mix of position 2 and 4 on a strat.

I love the versatility of this setup and I don't even play metal.  I know, a shame right?

The Pickup Place / Re: Dimarzio comparable to Carvin H22?

I've nothing to add.

I just dropped in to say that the h22 pickups are pretty darned nice.  I have a set that went in my rg520qs for a while and sounded killer.

Why not just pick up another h22t?

Loud and still bright sounds like harmonic design vintage plus.  They are as loud as a standard output bucker.  They add some bass and mids to the usual strat bright.

I have an rg3xxv, which is the quasi reissue if the 565.  It has a d'activator/air Norton s combo

I actually like the air Norton s better than the regular one.

The DActivator bridge matches really well with it and is an amazing metal pickup.

Since I run my amp in triode mode, the bright and articulate tone works with the squishy, less bright amp tone I have.

It want to try an air zone and a Norton in her eventually though. The dominion sounds interesting too.  The breed as well.

I want another Rg3xxv so I can put a lower output bucker in the bridge and a true single coil in the neck for a more classic rock vibe

Everything you wanted to know about .... / Re: The Norton
« on: July 28, 2009, 05:50:53 PM »
Hey guys! I just wanted to add some info here.  I Have had  a Norton in my RG520QS for 9 years or so.
During this time I had it set so I could do a full trem pull-up and was "rewarded" with a bright articulate sound.
Today, I raised it up to where it would normally be for a hardtail (about 1/8") and Whoo-Hooo!!!!!
Now, I have a Huge, Thick, Lower Midrangey sound!!

The Norton is very sensitive to pickup height.  Probably as much as the Tone Zone.

All that time wasted.................... :'(
