Hey guys, been away from this board for awhile but I'm coming back with a burning question (see topic title).
I've joined a Maiden tribute band ('80-'88) just for fun and I'm doing Adrian. A SD in the bridge is a given and I'd like a nice neck pickup to go with it. The catch: I have the PAF Pro and the Super 2 in other guitars and they obviously work great for this. However I'd like to try a Dimarzio I've never used before. I like the output/"gain feel" to be the same when I switch between pickups so I'm thinking Evo Neck. Am I way off? Is there something else I should try? I haven't been keeping up with the latest developments.
Cheers,

The Pickup Place / Best humbucker for both cleans and dirt?
« on: February 27, 2019, 03:53:43 AM »
Hey guys!
I'm wondering which you consider to be the 2 pickups (neck and bridge) that has the nicest clean AND dirty sounds in the Dimarzio lineup, ie if you both want to play EVH riffs with maximum authority and get the most beautiful clean sounds possible, and also great split sounds. The perfect pair. What would it be?

Cheers,

The Pickup Place / Duncan Custom 5 but with more mids?
« on: December 31, 2018, 04:29:29 AM »
I've got a swamp ash 24-fret Solar guitar with a maple neck and a Floyd. The neck is a Duncan 59 with I really like but the C5 in the bridge is a bit too scooped in the mids for my taste. Is there a HB (SD, DiMarzio or other) which is close to the C5 in output and feel but with a tad more mids?

It's been a long time since I played a JB so I'm thinking about if that would be a good fit as well as my old DiMarzio favorites Transition (too hot?) and Tone Zone (too much?).

What say yee?

Cheers and happy new year to all!

Anybody tried this? I'm a huge fan of the S2, its my favorite neck pu for shreddy stuff and Im thinking the Evo 2 could be an epic match in the bridge. Granted, it has (on paper) a bit less output but that shouldn't be anything that couldn't be fixed by adjusting pu height.

I've got the SD/S2 combo in one guitar and Super 3/S2 in another so I've got those two obvious combinations covered. Just looking for something more modern and mid-focused in the bridge. The Evo 2 seems like it could fit the bill perfectly.

Center Stage / AT-1/Cruiser/Cruiser doing AC/DC-ish hard rock

Just got my hands on an Ibanez Timmons sig model and had to record a short clip. Amp is a Hughes & Kettner GrandMeister 40 Deluxe using the line out straight into Logic, no mic.

The Pickup Place / Bridge humbucker: Air Classic vs 36th Anni vs VHPAF

I know there are a few old threads on this but I'd like some more input on how they compare to each other tone- and gainwise.
If you´ve played any of these and A/B'd please feel free to chime in.

The Pickup Place / Ultimate HSS setup?
« on: March 29, 2017, 02:25:08 AM »
Howdy,

I'm getting an Ibanez AT10P (Timmons model - 22 fret, Alder body, vintage trem) but since I'm not a huge fan of the AT-1 pickup nor the Cruisers I am going to swap em all out. I want versatility and authenticity. Good quack, great strat tones, good balance with the bridge HB. Musically it should be able to handle everything up to hard rock but with a focus on rock, blues, pop.

I've got a Virtual Hot PAF that will possibly go in the bridge but which singles will pair good with it? I'm thinking either 54 Pro (m) / HB2 (n) or Area 67 / 54 Pro. Nothing is set in stone, Im open to all suggestions.

Thoughts?

The Pickup Place / Favorite bridge pickup for shredding?
« on: March 10, 2017, 09:00:05 AM »
So, yes...which pickup do you prefer, and why, when you wanna do Shrapnel stuff like early Gilbert/Bouillet, Vinnie Moore, Macalpine, Tafolla etc?

For me the neck pickup is always the Super 2, I think its unbeatable for that super-fluid, bubbly tone but I still am not 100% decided on the bridge pickup. The Tone Zone is a candidate for sure, and the Super Distortion as well but I want to hear from you guys. Anybody using the Evo 2 for instance? Ive never tried it but it looks intriguing. Would be cool to hear some comparisons on that, the TZ and SD, or any other favorites you might have.

The Pickup Place / New bridge pickup for Ibanez SZ520
« on: March 07, 2017, 07:05:41 AM »
As per the subject. It's a set-neck, mahogany body.
I want the fattest, bassiest pickup that DiMarzio has to offer. My initial reaction is always to go Tone Zone but I don't want to go there in this guitar so I'm thinking Breed.
Music is doomy metal in the Sabbath vein.

Any thoughts or other recommendations?

The Pickup Place / New to 7-strings. Need help!
« on: March 25, 2015, 04:12:12 PM »
I recently got an Ibanez 7-string Universe. I find the Blaze pickups a bit lacking, but I have a hard time putting my finger on why. A bit bland perhaps?

Anyway, what's YOUR favorite 7-string pickups for metal, and why?
