Just got an e-mail from DiMarzio announcing the new Jake Bowen Signature Mirage pickups.

Interesting to see DiMarzio do a Humbucker and single coil sized rail humbucker set. Any one try them out?

News & New Guys / New Registrations & server roll back
« on: February 28, 2022, 09:07:14 PM »
Hello Hello!

Decided to spend some time to fix up a few things on the server. Been noticing a lot of suspicious traffic stemming from the Ukraine and Russia lately and updated a few things here and there. I'm still trying to sort why some emails don't make it out but others do.

If anyone is trying to register but not receiving the activation e-mail and it's not in your spam/junk box even after a bit of waiting please send me an email at buddroyce [a t] gmail and I'll manually activate your account for you.

Also had to do a roll back to one day prior to fix some issues. I don't think much should be affected though.

News & New Guys / Happy Holidays! Server update Dec 2021
« on: December 27, 2021, 12:00:39 PM »
Happy Holidays everyone!! Thank you all for making this place great!

Server software was updated again today. Hopefully it fixes some of the issues we've had here. It does look like we had about 300+ new user registrations over the last few days and while I'm flattered, I'm pretty sure the bulk majority are just fake spam accounts. Will deal with those accordingly.

The Pickup Place / DiMarzio wins double cream trademark battle
« on: May 27, 2021, 04:44:23 PM »
I know it's a highly contested topic of debate as it's something non-DiMarzio users typically have against the company but apparently DiMarzio had a 4 year legal battle over the trademark double cream humbucker design and won!

While I personally do sometimes wish I could get a double cream humbucker from another company, as a business owner in the world of entertainment, I'm very happy for Larry DiMarzio and DiMarzio Inc. in general for successfully defending their Intellectual Property.

Here's the press release if you haven't seen it:

News & New Guys / Minor server fix
« on: April 11, 2021, 02:40:13 PM »
An issue with the forum software that prevented certain posts from being posted was just fixed or at least I HOPE. It appears that previously posts with special characters weren't going through so band names like Motörhead would cause a post to fail but spelling it as Motorhead (without the fancy "ö") works.

The mini bar (off topic & misc) / What do you use to record?

We all have lots of guitars but now I'm wondering what everyone here uses for recording at home.

News & New Guys / Happy Holidays!
« on: December 19, 2020, 01:06:30 PM »
I know it's 2020 and the world still makes about as much sense as late 80's and early 90's music videos but Christmas is a week away and the year is almost over. Whether you celebrate it or not, I'm wishing you all a Merry Christmas if you do, happy holidays if you don't (I'm assuming you get holidays unlike me) and that Santa leaves you with some great gear this holiday season!

News & New Guys / Big Server Update!
« on: December 01, 2020, 02:06:39 AM »
 :madness: :madness: :madness: :madness:
If you're reading this, I have good news and some minor bad news.

The good news is that after about 10hrs of working on this, the new server is fully functional and I've moved all the data over!!

I'm going to admit, I've been avoiding this for the last several years because of the sheer amount of time and money involved. I couldn't just MOVE the files and the database over to the new server(trust me I tried). While it works it still has some of the inherent problems of the old server, with the biggest being new posts taking absolutely forever to go through. So this is a fresh server with a fresh install of the forum software with the database merged into it. If that sounds like geek to you, don't worry. All that matters is that this place is up and running with fewer issues.

The bad news?

Some of you may have lost your avatars, but that just gives you an excuse to find a new one. Additionally, some posts (few) were lost during the transition time between the old server and the new one. BOTH servers are actually live right now, so if this one doesn't work, I'm switching everything back to the old one. Both servers are located at the same location in Dallas, TX so there shouldn't be any connectivity issues. If there is, please let me know.

News & New Guys / Service Disruptions
« on: November 30, 2020, 06:59:33 PM »
The actual server that this site operates on has been running since about 2002/2003. For those of you geeky enough, it started off running Debian 3 (Woody) and has been upgraded several times since. Because of it's age and the sheer number of software upgrades it's had (including various hacky workaround fixes), fixing it up is going to take some work. Instead of attempting to overhaul this server, I'm building out a new server in Dallas and transfer this site along with all the other sites this server handles over.

That said, it's likely that the forums will be down for a bit some time this week and we MAY lose a couple of new posts but I'll try my best to mitigate that.

News & New Guys / New Moderator
« on: October 30, 2020, 01:03:22 PM »
With the exception of the first year or so when I had someone else help moderate this place, I've been running the forum very much solo. Aside from the spammers that show up from time to time, this place really didn't need that much in terms of moderation. However since I haven't been able to spend as much time on here as I'd like these days, I figured it would be nice to have someone help look after the place. I'm happy to announce that for the first time in well over a decade, this place has someone else other than me to help look after this place!!!  :madness:

Please welcome Stephan aka DarkBlueMurder as our new moderator!!

News & New Guys / Forum update 19OCT2020
« on: October 19, 2020, 01:28:28 PM »
Been away from things due to life but finally managed to get some time to make a return and clean some things up here. The recent horde of spammers have been removed and since the forum software was getting a little slow here, I've done some pruning of the user base.

All users that have had no posts or just 1 post and haven't logged in for the last year have been removed. There may have been some users that were removed by accident and I sincerely apologize if that happened to you.

If there are any problems, please shoot me a direct email to buddroyce at gmail

The Pickup Place / Press Release : DiMarzio releases Fortitude Pickup
« on: January 16, 2020, 02:40:09 PM »
Staten Island, N.Y., January 16, 2020 -- DiMarzio, Inc. announces the release of the Fortitude™ Bridge (DP290) pickup for electric guitars to be shown at the 2020 NAMM Expo in Anaheim, California.

View a video of Joe Duplantier talking about and demonstrating the Fortitude™ Bridge pickup [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NIs4KQ4ZvU ]

Gojira guitarist and lead vocalist Joe Duplantier favors the tonality and nuances of a vintage PAF®. Joe had specific requirements based on adjustments made in his Silver Cord Recording Studio.

First and foremost, he wanted a passive pickup that was vintage-sounding. For Joe, it’s all about the dynamic; he wants people to hear what he’s doing on the strings with his hands and the pick. He feels that’s the part of the chain that adds the spirit, soul, and life to the sound and prevents it from being flat.

Most of Joe’s riffs are on the bridge pickup, and he says it needs to sound “killer.” The Fortitude™ Bridge is very precise, very sharp, and Joe can get all sorts of percussive sounds with it.

The Fortitude™ Bridge is based on the PAF® 36th Anniversary Bridge with a few modifications. The clarity of a low output humbucker allows it to cut through with different tunings and high gain. Joe wanted the pickup to have a boost at 160Hz of about 1.5db, a touch more low-end, and a notch down around 500/600Hz. The Fortitude™ Bridge features vintage tone with a twist.

Joe suggested calling the pickup Fortitude because “it’s simple, it’s honest, it’s straight to the point, and it’s strong.”

The Fortitude™ Bridge maintains the vintage PAF® quality, yet produces some low-end muscle as you hit the strings harder. Basically, it’s a vintage style humbucker that can step out of the box.

Joe pairs the Fortitude™ Bridge with a PAF® 36th Anniversary Neck (DP103) for his signature sound.

The Fortitude™ Bridge is available in standard- and F-spacing.

Staten Island, N.Y., January 16, 2020 -- DiMarzio, Inc. announces the release of the UtoPIA™ Neck (DP287F), UtoPIA™ Middle (DP288F), and UtoPIA™ Bridge (DP289F) pickups for electric guitars.

Designed for Steve Vai’s signature Ibanez PIA3761 guitar, the UtoPIA™ Neck and Bridge pickups feature a custom laser-cut baroque style cover over a gold patterned layer.

Using the Evolution® as the basic platform, the UtoPIA™ Neck and Bridge were designed to focus more on the low-end response of the guitar while adding thickness and body to the top end. The challenge was to still deliver the harmonics for which the Evolution® is known. Upper mid-range frequencies were also dialed back to produce a less aggressive attack and provide more control. The UtoPIA™ Neck and Bridge boast a big, bold low end, high output, and thick top end.

Designed to match the sound and aesthetics of the UtoPIA™ Neck and Bridge for a modern-looking single coil, the satin gold-plated UtoPIA™ Middle pickup features the same etched pattern as the laser-cut Neck and Bridge pickups.

The UtoPIA™ Neck and Bridge Models are a perfect choice for bright guitars that favor an upper midrange peak, and will level out uneven frequencies. They are also great for coil-splitting when combined with the UtoPIA™ Middle Model.

The UtoPIA™ Middle can add some chime to any guitar with a lifeless single coil. Having a healthy amount of treble, the UtoPIA™ Middle can provide the “quack” in the 2nd and 4th position when placed between the UtoPIA™ Neck and Bridge humbuckers. The UtoPIA™ Middle is reverse polarity. It is humbucking when combined with the UtoPIA™ Neck and Bridge in split coil mode.

The UtoPIA™ Neck, Middle, and Bridge Models are available in F-spacing only.

DiMarzio’s UtoPIA™ Neck, Middle, and Bridge Model pickups are made in the U.S.A. and may now be ordered for immediate delivery. Suggested List Price for the UtoPIA™ Neck and Bridge is $209.99 (MAP $149.99) each and the UtoPIA™ Middle is $94.99 (MAP $69.99). For more information about the new UtoPIA™ pickups, please visit our website at www.dimarzio.com.
