Identify first Demarzio PAF
« on: September 13, 2008, 02:21:12 am »
New guy here but an old smoker. Back in the early? 70's when the first PAFs came out I put one on my '65 SG and it's still there today.

Everyone that hear's it goes nuts. Yesterday I bought a Marshall 2 x 12 combo 100 watt and when the guy brought it over and I cranked 'er up, he was fliipin out.

Of course that's why I've kept that pickup - it sounds really great. He asked me, and my feeble brain couldn't remember the exact name of the pickup.

Can someone tell me what these were called originally? All I remember is they were called PAF's. But the more I thought about it I'm wondering if it had a name besides being called a PAF.

Guitar is signed by the Reverend  Billy T. Gibbons.

Hey man, welcome to the forums.

Chances are, if it's from the 70s and it's got the screw coil, it's a DiMarzio DP103 PAF, which was a staple of their line until they updated it this past year with the DP103 36th Anniversary PAF.

Hi and welcome to the forum :) That definitely looks like an original DiMarzio PAF since it was the only double cream humbucker with a set of slug and screw poles.
