pickup identification help
« on: October 25, 2018, 12:54:39 PM »
recently got pickup without label.

it looks like DiMarzio HS pickup. same plastic bobbin material, metal spacer that I only saw on DiMarzio pickup, the magnet stagger, white tape like I found on early 80s SDS-1. it also has white screw at the bottom like I saw on few older HS pickup.
but two things made me in doubt.

first the lead wire. it has correct red & green wire, but instead black & white for splitting option it has two black wire instead.
and the second was the reading, it read 16k. it might be still in tolerance for HS-2.

anyone can help confirming this one?

Looks like an old HS model to me. It's likely that there's two black wires to prevent people from trying to coil tap the pickup and getting the wrong coil. Your best bet here might be to contact DiMarzio directly to figure it out. Closest pickup I can think of is a HS-2 but that's totally a guess.
